Name: Evan Sabahnur.
Canon Point: Wolverine and the X-men volume 1, issue 42, just after the conclusion of the new students/SHIELD agents arc.
History: Partial history here.

A clone of Apocalypse. En Sabah Nur, as Apocalypse is also known, had resurrected as a young child. Indoctrinated by the cult that followed his previous incarnation in the ways of his former self from an early age, he was discovered by the Uncanny X-men of the time, including Fantomex, who shot the young Apocalypse. He also, unnoticed by his teammates, took a blood sample from the dead child. This blood sample was used to create Evan.

Raised in virtual reality inside the weapons facility known as The World, he believed he lived with his mother and father in Kansas, often visited by Fantomex (who called himself Uncle Cluster). Fantomex's plan was to see if, raised away from the followers of Apocalypse, the clone could be a force for good in the world; as such, his early childhood was designed to steer him along that path. Unfortunately, with En Sabah Nur dead, the power of Apocalypse had taken over Archangel, who had served previously as one of Apocalypse's Horsemen. The fight was going poorly, until Fantomex released Evan from the world simulation early. Evan distracted Archangel long enough for Psylocke to defeat him, although Evan took some serious physical damage in the fight; Archangel and Apocalypse were both wiped, although the physical body of Warren Worthington remained behind with no memories. Afterwards, however, Evan seemed to have forgotten that he'd been woken up from the simulation, or that anyone had made note of his resemblance to Apocalypse.

After the battle, with nowhere else to go, Evan was enrolled into the recently re-opened and re-named Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. Initially, he was greeted with reservation by the other students, all of whom noticed his resemblance to Apocalypse. In particular, Quentin Quire was particularly vocal about the resemblance, and the two of them did not get off to a good start. Even so, he managed to make some friends, especially when he accompanied a number of his classmates to a space-station that had previously crippled Wolverine. In partiular, he befriended the memoryless Angel. Not long after this, Evan was revealed to have looked up Apocalypse, as several other classmates had called him Kid Apocalypse. Evan acknowledged the resemblance, but said he would never grow up to be Apocalypse. Deathlok, who could see potential futures, saw a future when Evan takes up the Apocalypse mantle and destroys the school utterly; he did not tell Evan this, but told Wolverine that Evan might grow up to be a saviour or one of the worst destroyers ever known. Evan also saved Angel's life, after he tried to fly too high.

Not long after that, Evan was kidnapped whilst on a field trip to Genosha, the destroyed former home of a large number of mutants. Orchestrated by one version of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants with Daken as their leader, the kidnappers tried to destroy Evan's psyche. As a first step, they let Sabretooth murder a number of people at a gas station and telling Evan he could only stop it by killing Sabretooth, which he was unable to do. After they were dead, Daken told Evan it was his fault those people had died. Then they took him to the place he thought was his home and showed him his dead parents, then explained his parents couldn't be dead as they were only ever fake and that Evan was a clone of a child Fantomex had murdered. After that, the Brotherhood took him to their base, along with the corpse of Fantomex who they had killed. Using his form, they tried to indoctrinate Evan into becoming Apocalypse, even offering him use of a set of the old Apocalypse's armour.

As a side note, the X-Force team was briefly blasted into a future where Evan had been at one point the worst threat mankind had known before he was defeated. Back in the present, they argue over whether or not they can kill Evan if the torture he's undergoing has broken his mind. Deadpool, having left the rest of X-force behind, is the first to find Evan. At first appearing like he is going to kill Evan, he is instead trying to help him escape. Evan, however, has started to believe the Brotherhood, and betrays Deadpool. Finally, Wolverine is placed in a room full of water, one of the ways to kill him that his healing factor can't negate. Evan finally breaks, and puts on the armour, and seeks revenge on the Brotherhood. Wolverine, escaped from the death-trap, finally gets through to Evan that revenge isn't the way, and he backs down. Later, back at school, Deadpool tells Evan he isn't Apocalypse at all, and that he can be a hero.

Shortly after this, all the teachers of the school are mind-controlled by an evil circus; Evan is one of the students who ends up fighting them. He ends up in a room full of mirrors that claim to show the true self; in the mirrors, Evan is a hero. Unfortunately, distracted by this glimpse at a future he'd started to doubt, Evan is knocked out by Storm.

Then Wolverine organises a school trip to the Savage Lands, telling the students that either they will learn to work together or he will leave them there. The students rapidly fall apart, and Evan flies off with Sprite, a new female student. The trip is interrupted by Wolverine's brother Dog, who summons cowboys, cavemen and robots to teach the students what he thinks they should be learning; mostly, guns, although Evan refuses to use one as they aren't heroic. When Dog turns on them for being ungrateful, the team of students stands up to him, and he vanishes.

Somewhere around this point, a number of meta-human schools, including the Jean Grey Institute, organise a tournament. Meant to be a sporting tournament, it quickly goes wrong when Thanos attacks and the Atlantean school sends an emergency signal, which shows a devastated city. Then Avengers Academy is attacked, where Evan is. The students of the schools, initially hidden away for their own safety, instead head out to help. Underprepared and working as individuals, they initially struggle, but later manage to defeat a large opponent by working together.

Back at the school, a pair of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents infiltrate the school, posing as mutants by taking mutant growth hormone. Although Evan and the team initially welcome the pair, they are not fooled, and when the agents make a move Evan is one of the students waiting for them. It's also revealed that Evan and Sprite are probably dating; Iceman threatens them with detention for holding hands.

Personality:
One of Evan's most defining characteristics is his need to be a hero. It's what he was raised to be, from a very early age; his parents taught him right from wrong and that you should always do the right thing, no matter how hard it is. It's also what he most wants to be, and for a very long time it was what he believed he was born to be, encouraged by his Uncle Cluster. This often shows during fights and rescue attempts; Evan is more than capable of fighting, and shows both determination and capability. He's shown a couple of times saving people, without stopping to think about it, and will almost always try to be helpful wherever possible.

Unfortunately for Evan, his childhood was essentially a VR simulation; his loving parents have never actually physically existed, the farm he lived on was only a copy of one that exists in the real world, and both were programmed by Fantomex, who only pretended to be Evan's uncle. Evan himself is in fact the teenage clone of Apocalypse, a major villain. All of these facts he discovered only during a very traumatic kidnapping attempt by the then Brotherhood of Evil, led by Daken, and both the dicovery and the events have left something of a mark on Evan. His drive to be a hero is now made more urgent, because almost everyone he knows fears, even expects him to be a villain one day. At the same time, his fear that even despite his efforts he could so easily be the villain he resembles one day undermines his self confidence in day-to-day life outside of battle. It's said of Evan at one point that the person who fears him the most is actually Evan, and it's likely that's the case. Between his memories of the kidnapping and that fear, he also struggles to sleep sometimes, and suffers nightmares.

It's true that Evan doesn't always seem to like himself very much either, and his low self-confidence, although it's being worked on, is often a problem. It does affect him more than he lets on, sometimes, although he tries to hide it. It occasionally slips out as bitter comments aimed at himself, though. Evan is also occasionally prone to brooding over perceived unfairness, and can sometimes sulk a little, although it's fairly rare. His inability to talk about what's troubling him openly sometimes comes into play here, as well. As does his self-esteem; he doesn't expect people to want to listen to him, so he doesn't always talk his problems over until it's a little late.

Between his low self-esteem and his own usually calm nature, Evan can be fairly reserved around people he doesn't know, and is often defensive, sometimes pre-emptively. He rarely makes the first approach, although he is starting to be more comfortable with doing so and with people in general. Due to a number of reasons, among them shyness, a fear of rejection, and an unwillingness to have to deal with what other people might think of him, he occasionally struggles with social situations initially, but is usually polite regardless, due to his upbringing. Around people he knows and trusts to some degree, however, Evan soon becomes much less quiet, will initiate conversations, and will smile and joke much more frequently. His sense of humor is quiet, but present, and he occasionally dips into sarcasm around people he's very comfortable with. He tends to be fairly non-judgemental, as well, at least at first.

Evan tends to be almost painfully honest and sincere with other people most of the time, except where politeness forbids and where his role as potentially future Apocalypse comes into play. Although he tends to be inititally suspicious, he trusts other people relatively unconditionally once his suspicions ease up. This can make him seem naive; between this and his defensiveness, he can sometimes seem younger than the fifteen years he's experienced. He rarely outright lies, although he does omit the truth, and he does not like talking about the Apocalypse thing, preferring to just never ever mention it. Unfortunately, he's not good at hiding his fears, if people can find out about them within a few days of meeting him.

It is possible to make Evan angry, and it can even be easy, depending on how angry you're making him, as he has two very different types of anger. The first, the one most people see, is a fairly hot temper when people mock or threaten things or people he cares about; it blows up quickly, calms down quickly, and is very rarely fatal. It's also part of his defensiveness The other type is a colder, deeper kind of rage, and it is both very, very difficult and very, very dangerous to get Evan that angry. The one time it's been seen so far, during the kidnapping, he'd seen a number of people die in front of him including people he cared about, and been taunted about his inability to save people. Usually unwilling to kill people, in the second state of anger Evan was willing to kill and injure anyone who'd caused him harm or gotten in his way. It was also much more difficult to get him to calm down. In this state of anger, Evan resembles Apocalypse much more than a quiet farm boy from Kansas; it terrifies him that he could be that angry.

Skills | Powers: Evan's still learning a lot of his powers and the limitations on them. Theoretically, he should possess any power Apocalypse has used, but many of them he doesn't seem to know he possesses, or how to use them.

Evan can alter his form at will, although he tends to stick to just changing one or two limbs. He can change in size, either all over or specific limbs. He can increase his strength, and reform his limbs into weapons. Potentially, there are other things he can do with this ability, but these tend to be his standard choices. This stops short of actual shape-shifting, though, as Evan is unable to alter the way he looks. He's fairly resistant to injury, can regenerate most wounds, and adapt to be resistant to most poisons or atmospheric conditions.

Evan can also project and absorb a number of energy types, although usually he just sticks with laser eyes and exploding things by looking at them. It's not an ability he uses often, though, and rarely against human or humanoid targets unless he's really angry.

He can fly, although it's not clear if he needs equipment to do so or if he can just shift form to do so. Usually, he seems to be wearing some kind of boots to do so.

Evan is also very intelligent, especially when it comes to learning and retaining information.

First Person Sample:

Audio

[The voice coming over this transmission is young, and keeps cracking, in that slightly awkward teenage stage. It might also sound like he's a little upset, although he's trying very hard not to.]

The... ferryman? He said to introduce myself, so I guess I probably should.

[He hesitates, briefly, not sure who to introduce himself as, but eventually he figures he might as well stick to the basics.]

My name is Evan, and I don't know why I'm here, but I could use some help, please. I'm bleeding a bit, but it isn't that bad. I need a place to go, though, if anyone can tell me of one.

Third Person Sample:

It's never easy for Evan to sleep, and tonight is proving especially bad for it. Too many things to think about, on top of his usual insomnia. Not all of it is actually bad, but he's had very little time to stop and think recently. There's his new relationship with Jia Jing, for one. He's not sure where that's going, or if it's a good idea or not, but she seems happy enough with it, and Evan doesn't want to mess things up with her. Besides, he does like her. She cheers him up, encourages him, doesn't actually seem to mind the way he looks. Then again, she's never seen his predecessor, yet, so that might help. There's also his increasing friendships with his classmates; even Quentin's been tolerable, recently, even if the school president thing seems to be going to his head slightly. And Broo's back, so he at least has someone to talk to about lessons.

On the other hand, there's all the usual issues, and now these new students on top. He really hopes Quentin and Trevor are wrong about them; he's started to quite like Joey, the last couple of days. On the other hand, even Evan can't deny there's something odd about both of them, and Josephine is especially off, refusing to interact with anyone. Evan knows better than most how intimidating the school can be, but it's not that bad.

It's almost a relief when Quentin leaves a brief message of They're on the move, guys. Sure, it's technically breaking the rules, and Evan's still not sure they shouldn't have let the teachers deal with it, but he guesses there's still a chance they can talk the twins out of... whatever it is they're doing, and for that, he supposes it's not too bad if the rules get a little bent.

Cautiously, he gets up again, still dressed in his uniform, and moves to the door. It wouldn't do to set off the danger room if he can help it, after all.

Marks: A large squared-off A for anger, mid-chest.
